As an editor, I've held a broad range of positions conceptualizing, commissioning, story editing, copy editing, and fact checking features big and small, as well as helping outlets create and launch new columns, recurring features, and overarching editorial strategies. I am not currently looking to take on work like this, but am very proud of some of the stories and publications I've had a chance to work on over the years. A selection is linked below.
Pioneer Works Broadcast
From 2021-2023, I assigned and edited music features for
Broadcast, a multi-disciplinary arts and sciences publication launched by the Brooklyn arts center Pioneer Works. I edited pieces on
the surge of fainting incidents when concerts returned after the pandemic lockdown,
the popularity (and contradictions) of Instagram-based music archivists, the
the history of cemeteries as social spaces, and
the beauty and power of musical mistakes, as well as a series of independent label profiles, an
interview with the late jaimie branch, wide-ranging essays by Harmony Holiday and ricky sallay zoker, and many more.
She Shreds Magazine
From 2017-2019, I worked on a freelance basis as the copy editor and fact checker for She Shreds, a print magazine highlighting women and non-binary guitar players. The publication had a legendary run before shutting down its print operation in 2020.
Impose Magazine
From 2014-2015, I ran the features section for Impose, an online magazine enmeshed in the New York DIY scene during the late 2000s and 2010s. Impose was known for featuring independent and unsigned bands that would play venues like Shea Stadium and Death by Audio. Some of my favorite features that I worked on during this time included NM Mashurov's profile of Princess Nokia, Crispin Long's in-depth feature on a show series that happened in the mountains of upstate New York, and Cynthia Schemmer's early profile of Hop Along.
The Boston Phoenix
My first job out of college was working first as the Editorial Assistant and later Assistant Music Editor at the legendary Boston alt-weekly, where I contributed regularly to print and online music coverage, and helped edit the music pages.
