New Devon Welsh record is out today; I've been so excited for this one. I return to his records True Love and Dream Songs all the time. One of the last trips I took before the pandemic was going on a two-week tour as a member of Abandon opening for Devon. A couple of weeks before the tour I sent a text asking if everyone would be cool with me making a newspaper on tour that I'd assemble daily in the car and Xerox for the merch table. Everyone was incredibly supportive and it quickly became much more of a group project among the whole touring party, with everyone writing little entries on their notes apps on the drives. On a few occasions Devon even tore through sound check so he could zip us around town getting to the nearest copy shop before doors to make sure that the newspaper (one sheet zine of reviews, poems, q&a's, photos) got out on time. I just love the story of the Tour Gazette and will share it anytime I get, lol. The album is beautiful; this tune feels especially timeless.
Cardigan purse passport pajamas silk. My first thought was Joan Didion's 1979 packing list. Why is it so cool for cool women to simply list a bunch of ordinary things they're taking on a trip? It's just real. But also it's "I'm leaving and you can't stop me. Bye bye."
